The Story Behind AMC Internet Consultants
Mike Keaty has been helping businesses grow through smart marketing and technology since the late 1980s. His career spans restaurant ownership, small business training, insurance technology innovation, publishing, and nearly three decades of internet consulting.
Early Marketing & Business Ventures
Mike’s entrepreneurial journey began when he built and operated a two-location restaurant group, gaining first-hand experience in the challenges of running and marketing a small business.
He then joined Tom Monson at the Small Business Advancement Institute, where he led multi-client cooperative market research studies across the Pacific Northwest. These studies were presold to local businesses and provided each participant with a custom, unbiased report on media usage habits — from radio and TV to newspaper, yellow pages, and other channels — filtered by their target demographics such as age, income, and gender.
To deliver accurate results, Mike hired and trained a phone survey team and even wrote the software that tabulated and produced tailored reports for each business. This innovative approach gave small business owners clear, actionable insights into where, when, and how to invest their advertising dollars.
Pioneering Technology in Insurance
In 1989, Mike joined Mutual of Omaha, where he helped develop one of the first laptop-based sales tools in the insurance industry. The software transformed a lengthy questionnaire into a personal “Insurance Needs Review” with a professional quote — technology that was ahead of its time for insurance agents.
Advanced Marketing Corp & Table Talk
By 1993, Mike had founded Advanced Marketing Corp., launching Table Talk, a restaurant table publication distributed in 10 states from Washington to Colorado. This venture combined creative advertising with local market insights — skills that would later translate naturally to the digital world.
Discovering the Internet & Launching 123Relocation.com
In 1995, while on assignment in Wyoming, Mike encountered the emerging Internet and saw its potential for connecting consumers with businesses. He launched AMC Internet Consultants and, in 1996, introduced 123Relocation.com, starting with Kalispell, Montana.
At the time, AMC was focused on selling websites — but sales often stalled because businesses lacked urgency. Prospects would say, “I know I need a website. Call me next month.” Mike needed a closing tool, something that created immediate value and compelled business owners to act.
123Relocation.com became that answer. The platform not only drove demand for websites but also funded AMC’s growth, sold hosting on dedicated servers, and positioned AMC as a national player.
The Fixer Mindset
Running 123Relocation.com at scale meant Mike had to handle everything in-house — from coding and design to server management, security, and emergency response. Without the option to outsource, he became a fixer: diagnosing problems quickly, solving technical issues under pressure, and maintaining a 99.9% uptime years before cloud hosting simplified reliability.
This experience forged a rare combination of skills:
– Full-stack technical expertise in web development, hosting, performance, and security
– Marketing acumen rooted in decades of small business growth, lead generation, and sales strategy
That blend makes Mike unique: a consultant who not only builds and repairs websites, but also ensures they drive measurable results.
Semi-Retirement & Continued Consulting
After selling 123Relocation.com in 2012, Mike stepped back from full-time work to care for family members with serious health issues. During this period, he continued serving a select group of long-term clients as a freelance consultant.
